What is Botox?

Botox is the proprietary name for a brand of Botulinum toxin. BT is a “neuro-inhibitor” that comes from a spore forming bacteria. Other brands include Xeomin and Dysport. This medication is injected into facial muscles of the face partially paralyzing or weakening the muscle. This causes overlying wrinkles of the face to smooth out or possibly disappear. This is especially useful cosmetically in the face by decreasing overlying wrinkles that come from aging. They are also used therapeutically for various conditions such as Migraine Headaches and for focal sweating of the hands or arm pits. They are given as a local injection.

What is the downtime after Botox injections?

It is probably not a good idea to exercise withing 24 hours of the procedure but otherwise there is no down time.

Where do you use Botox?

Botox is primarily used cosmetically on the upper face especially in the “crow’s feet” wrinkles lateral to the eyes, forehead, and the glabella which is the area between the eyebrows and above the bridge of the nose.

How long does Botox last?

Once Neuro-inhibitors are injected into facial muscles, the effects start to become evident usually in 4 days and peek in 6 weeks. The effects of botulinum toxin lasts about 4–6 months.

Does a Botox injection hurt?

We use a numbing cream prior to the procedure. The injections are performed with a very small needle and the depth is relatively superficial so there is minimal discomfort.

Is Botox dangerous?

Botulinum toxin injections are safe in trained hands. Side effects are not common and when they occur, they are minor. Botulinum toxin injections are not dangerous when performed by a trained and qualified professional.

Can Botox be overdone?

Like anything we do, botulinum injections can be overdone. A trained provider / injector knows the limitations and will advise you.

What is the down time after a Botox injections.

There is essentially no down time after Botox. You will be instructed to use cold compresses for any swelling or bruising and not to rub the area which can spread the medication away from the desired area. When done by a professionally trained physician, it will not be evident that any procedure was done.

What is a filler?

A filler is a highly engineered substance product that can replace the tissues under the skin that are lost with age. There are many different kinds of fillers, most are very unlikely to cause allergy. They last usually 1 year but sometimes more than 2 years, They are safe in professional hands. Your injector / provider will advise you which is best for you.

How long does a filler last?

Filler’s last usually less than one year but some can last more than 2 years.

What are the chances of being allergic to a filler?

The incidence of allergic reaction to various fillers is rare. Allergy is very unlikely with almost all brands and types of fillers. There are very few types of fillers that are allergenic. Fillers come with specific anti-allergy protocols to detect allergy and prevent reactions.

Are there any long-term health issues with a filler?

None known so far.

Does a thread lift hurt?

The procedure is minimally invasive, and we use local and topic anesthetics. The patient feels very little discomfort.

How long is a thread lift last?

Thread lifts last a little more than 2 years.

Is a thread lift visible?

When done by a professionally trained physician, It will not be evident that any procedure was done.

What are other procedures performed in the practice?

Other procedures done in this clinic include, suturing, repair and care of wounds, reduction of small joint and dislocations, splinting, trigger joint injections, cosmetic / aesthetics like filler injections, thread facial lifts and Botulinum / Neuro-inhibitors (Botulinum)

What are the chances of infection with any of these procedures?

The procedure is done in a sterile field and the incident of infection is minimal.
