FAQS

Frequently asked questions

How long does it take for an evaluation physical?

The entire process with all required parameters met can take less than 1/2 hour to 45 minutes. We are a relatively new practice, therefor, the waiting time is almost nonexistent.

What are common disqualifiers that would keep me from passing the CDL physical?

Common disqualifiers are severe hypertension, epilepsy, evidence of sleep apnea and narcolepsy, insulin dependent severe (Brittle) diabetes with a history of hypoglycemia causing seizures or coma, stroke or TIA and cardiac arrhythmias. In many of these situations, there are ways to improve or stabilize the condition so that driver can pass. We will do everything we can to insure your passing this evaluation.

Can you help with overcoming the disqualifiers of my CDL physical evaluation?

At BUCS we will do everything in our power to ensure passing. We realize that it is after all your livelihood at stake, and we take that seriously.

Is there anything I should do prior to coming for my CDL evaluation physical?

No, just arrive at your appointment. You do not need to fast. There is NO blood work and no Urine Drug Screen with this evaluation. The only thing you need to bring is your picture ID and if applicable, your old CDL.

Does a CDL evaluation physical include a hearing test?

There are two types of hearing tests that the DOT accepts. The first is called forced whispering which does not require complicated equipment and it is a simple quick test. The second is the audiometry machine more complicated and it takes more time.

What are the most important things you check for during a CDL evaluation physical?

When you arrive and after a brief history is taken (usually a form filled out by the driver), Blood pressure, pulse, respiratory rate, height and weight are taken. Next, you are directed to read the “eye” chart followed by a hearing test and then your general examination.

If I am afraid that I won’t pass in one or more areas, should I still come in for the evaluation?

Yes, we will check you out thoroughly. Fortunately there are modalities through follow up, treatment, referral and sometimes including a government exemption that we can utilize to insure that you pass.

How much is a CDL evaluation physical? Can this be covered under insurance?

This evaluation is not covered under your insurance. The evaluation is as much as a general visit and we will match the most reasonable prices anywhere.
