FAQS

Frequently asked questions

Do you provide counseling regarding overall performance enhancement when it comes to sports?

We can provide counseling in this area when indicated. Sometimes these patients are referred for general counseling and / or a specialist.

Is there a difference between occupational injury and employer negligence?

Occupational Medicine deals with injuries and illnesses that are a result of the work place. Sometimes there is a poor safety environment causing the problem. It is the employer's (as set forth by “OSHA”) responsibility to ensure safety by monitoring and improving safety in the workplace environment. Workers are sometimes trained in safety. For instance workers are taught the proper way to lift to prevent back injury which is a common type of injury at work and is responsible for a large portion of missed workdays.

What are the most common sports injuries?

The most common sport injuries are sprains & strains followed by fractures. The sprains are graded; grade 1, grade2, grade 3, etc. where the highest grades are torn ligaments or tendons with possible subluxation or dislocation at the joint.

What are the most common occupational injuries?

The most common injuries in a labor-intensive environment are back, shoulders, hips, ankles, toes and feet. Less frequent are head injuries, psychosocial issues, burns, inhalation, eye and chemical related injuries. Often work injuries are very similar in cause, presentation and treatment to sport injuries.

What do I do if I have an occupational injury and I don’t have insurance?

If you are a W2 wage earner, and the vast majority of workers are, chances are your employer has insurance known as “work-man’s Comp” and the premiums are paid to the government by the employer.
